Diversabillity Advocacy Network

DAN – Who We Are

Formed in 2012, the Diversability Advocacy Network (DAN) is led in partnership by the Disability Action Center, the State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) North State Regional Office, and Passages (Area Agency on Aging).

Living with dignity, being part of a community, feeling safe, maintaining health and mobility, aging in place, being able to exercise choice – these are expectations that we all have. Community-based supportive services are a necessary part of the equation in helping us meet the challenges of living successfully in our communities, now and in the future.

2018 marked the inaugural launch of DAN’s annual Leadership Voices on Healthcare Direction symposium.  Through this event platform, DAN brings farmhouse political panel discussion of key healthcare issues affecting people that have disabilities, older adults, and primary users of the Medicare | Medi-Cal systems; brings community voice surrounding emergency services, and allows space for our community to visit information and resource tables sponsored by key healthcare providers and consumer advocacy groups.

DAN’s continued goal is to increase the power of our consumers to act as self-advocates in the political arena, and to preserve and expand available funding for necessary services. We educate, advocate, and organize to the maximum extent possible within the bounds of our 501 (c)(3) charters.

MISSION AND PRINCIPLES OF THE DIVERSABILITY ADVOCACY NETWORK

Mission Statement: DAN is committed to ensuring that people of all ages who experience disabilities, functional limitations or chronic conditions achieve access to quality healthcare.

Vision Statement: DAN serves as a trusted and reliable information resource for many of California’s northern, rural counties. DAN provides information regarding long-term services and supports (LTSS).

We advocate for a high-quality LTSS system that promotes individual well-being and social participation, economic independence, and prevents impoverishment. DAN advocates for legislative and health care changes that will impact individuals of all ages.

Definition: LTSS: Long-term services and supports refer to a wide range of personal, medical, and social/financial assistance required by persons with functional limitations over an extended time. The services may be publicly or privately financed, delivered in a wide range of settings, and may change as the needs of the individual who uses the services change.

DAN Principles: DAN endorses a system of long-term services and supports based on the following principles:

  • Dignity
  • Choice
  • Flexibility
  • Quality
  • Legality
  • Cultural Competence
  • Accessibility
  • Affordability
  • Inclusive
  • Independence
